Aging Process Stop The Aging Process

You Cannot Stop The Aging Process But You Can Slow Its Progress

The aging process is the term used to describe the gradual decline in function of the cells, tissues and organs of the body. Unfortunately at this point in time we do not yet have the technological ability to stop the aging process, though we may be able to do so at some point in the near future. In August 2008 scientific researchers at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York found that they were able to stop the aging process in an organ. This breakthrough could mean we will be able to develop medical treatments that stop the aging process of certain organs and prevent them from malfunctioning later on in life. For now, though, there is no pill or magic potion that can effectively stop the aging process. However, there is a great deal we can do to slow it down considerably and increase longevity.

It Might Not Be Old Age

When we slow down later in life and cease to be able to do all of the things we could easily manage when we were younger, many of us assume that it must simply be part of the natural aging process. However, not being able to function as well as you once did might not be a consequence of your long years on the planet. The inability to bend over and pick an item of trash up off the floor might actually be the result of leading a sedentary and inactive lifestyle. There is an old adage that claims that those of us who do not use it lose it, and there is a great deal of truth behind it. You may not be able to stop the aging process but you can at least make sure you can still bend at the knees and touch your toes by the age of seventy.

What You Should Do

Nobody at the present time can stop the aging process, but we can all take better care of ourselves so that we don't grow old quite so quickly. If you want to stay young for as long as you possibly can, lead a healthy lifestyle that includes regular exercise and a nutritious low fat diet. Try to keep your BMI under twenty five so that you reduce your risk of developing obesity related health conditions.

It is also a good idea to keep your mind active by reading books and doing crosswords and Sudoku puzzles. If you have a hobby that you enjoy, make time for it as often as you can. Try to make sure you get as much sleep as you need and take the time to relax. Whenever you can, be physically active. Take the stairs instead of the elevator and walk to the store instead of driving. Take care of your skin by using a good quality moisturizing cream and stay out of the sun wherever possible. You cannot stop the aging process, but the best of us accept it as a natural part of life. The most you can hope for is a long, happy and pain free existence.
